WHAT THE SYSTEM HANDLES
Online Tax Submission for the Taxes Your City Actually Collects
TEKConnectGov’s tax collection module covers the business and occupational taxes cities collect, not property taxes. Businesses submit remittances through the public portal, pay online or by check, and your finance staff gets the reporting and reconciliation tools to manage it all.
Multiple tax types in one place
Occupational tax, liquor tax, sales tax, gross receipts, and any other categories your city defines are all managed through the same system. Businesses submit in one place and your finance staff sees everything in one dashboard.
Two submission workflows, your choice
With pay-at-submittal, the business submits and pays in the same step, either online or by check at city hall. With review-then-invoice, your staff looks over the remittance before anything is collected, and the system sends an invoice once it’s approved.
Reconciliation and reporting built in
Run reports by date range, by business, by tax type, or across all submissions. Payment reconciliation is straightforward because the reports are already built. Audit-ready records are always there when you need them. We can also create additional custom reports as your needs evolve.
Per-business payment history
Every payment a business has made is on record, broken down by tax type and submission date. Pull a full history for any business at any time, whether you need it for compliance verification, a business inquiry, or audit support.
Online payment via Stripe
Businesses paying online use the system’s native Stripe integration. Payments confirmed instantly, recorded against the submission automatically. Manual check payments recorded and tracked in the same system.
Configurable to your tax structure
Tax types, categories, rates, submission intervals (monthly, quarterly, annually), and required fields are all set by your administrator. The system matches how your city already operates, not the other way around.
HOW IT WORKS
Two Ways to Collect, You Decide Which Fits Your City
Some cities want payment collected the moment a remittance is submitted. Others want to review each submission before anything is invoiced. TEKConnectGov supports both and your city chooses the workflow that fits how you already operate.
Pay at Submittal
The business submits their remittance and pays in the same step, online through Stripe or by check at city hall. No review step, no waiting. Payment records immediately against the submission.
Best for cities that want fast, clean collection with no manual review step.
Review Then Invoice
The business submits their remittance and staff reviews it before any payment is collected. Once it’s approved, the system generates and sends an invoice. The business pays online through Stripe or by check.
Best for cities that want to verify remittance amounts before collecting payment.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions -
Tax Collection
What types of taxes can be submitted through the system?
TEKConnectGov supports a wide variety of tax types that cities collect from businesses including occupational tax, liquor tax, sales tax, rental and lodging taxes, and other city-specific tax categories. The system is flexible and can be configured to match the specific tax types your city collects. Note: the system is designed for most tax remittances, but does not handle property taxes.
Can work orders be assigneCan businesses submit and pay taxes online, or do they have to come to city hall?d to specific crews or employees?
Businesses can submit their tax remittances entirely online through the public portal at any time — no office visit required. The system supports online payment at the point of submittal so the entire process can be completed digitally. For cities that prefer it, the system also accommodates manual payments by check brought to city hall, giving your community flexibility during the transition to digital submission.
How does the review and approval process work — do we have to review every remittance?
That is entirely up to your city. TEKConnectGov supports two workflows. In the first, businesses submit a remittance and payment is collected at the point of submittal — the amount is paid immediately, either online or by check, without a prior city review. In the second, city staff reviews each remittance for accuracy first, then generates and sends an invoice to the business, which is paid separately. Your city chooses the workflow that matches how you currently operate.
Does the system help with payment reconciliation and reporting?
Yes. TEKConnectGov includes reporting tools specifically designed to support payment reconciliation. Staff can run reports to see total remittances received by date range, payment amounts by business, payments broken down by tax type, and outstanding or unpaid submissions. These reports make it straightforward to reconcile tax collections, identify discrepancies, and prepare for audits without building reports manually in spreadsheets.
Can we track how much each individual business has paid, broken down by tax type?
Yes. The system maintains a complete payment history for every business — organized by tax type, submission date, and amount paid. Staff can pull a report for any specific business at any time showing their full remittance history. This is especially useful for verifying compliance, responding to business inquiries, and supporting audits or legal proceedings.
Is the tax collection system configurable to our city's specific tax categories and rates?
Yes. Tax types, categories, applicable rates, submission intervals (monthly, quarterly, annually), and required form fields are all configurable by your city administrator. The system is built to accommodate the specific tax structure your city already uses — you are not forced into a one-size-fits-all template.
